World Pride NYC Celebrates a Special Year in 2019
This year, we’re celebrating something incredibly special at World Pride NYC. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a historic episode which sparked the fires of gay liberation across America — and gave birth to the very first Pride March in our history.
Members of the community and supporters from all walks of life are welcome to participate in this monumental anniversary event, which provides an eclectic mix of cultural showcases, educational material, and some of the best parties New York has ever seen.
Top Parties, Events, and Cultural Highlights at World Pride NYC
World Pride NYC hosts some of the hottest events around. So, what are the highlights from the lineup of festivities this year?
1. OutCinema at Pride
We can’t wait to start Pride off right at the SVA Theatre from June 17th-19th with a showstopping celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community through cinema. These films provide both education and inspiration, and the afterparty boasts an open bar — that sounds like a win-win situation to us.
2. Family Movie Night
Don’t miss Family Movie Night at the Hudson River Park on the 21st of June. Everyone is welcome at this free evening event, where community-centric films appropriate for all ages will be showcased to the crowd.
3. CosPlay & Pride
Let’s face it: we love a good cosplay scene. And none will be better than Cosplay & Pride at Pier 40 on June 22nd, where outstanding artists and amateurs alike will be donning crazy costumes in support of the LGBTQIA+ community everywhere.
4. Human Rights Conference
Held at the New York Law School on June 24th and 25th, this conference offers a learning opportunity for anyone interested in LGBTQIA+ rights across the world. Distinguished academics, journalists, actors, and influencers will all have a chance to speak and offer their own unique perspectives.
5. VIP Rooftop & Teaze
It’s a challenge to keep up with the DJs at these infamous parties, but we’re certainly going to try. The two dance-fests are held separately on the afternoon of the 29th of June to benefit free events like Movie Night and the March. Get your tickets as soon as they’re up for grabs because these fiestas sell out fast.
6. New York City Pride March
We’re already gearing up to shimmy, shake, and holler our way through New York on Sunday, June 30th at the biggest event of Pride. The parade begins downtown at 5th Avenue and 26th Street, where hundreds of fabulous floats and colorful costumes will be on display for the world to marvel at.
7. Pride Island
We can’t not mention Pride Island. This roaringly awesome music festival is a hub for all the community to let loose in the heat of Hell’s Kitchen at Pier 97. Sensations like Grace Jones, Teyana Taylor, and more will all be gracing the stages here.
